13 years after releasing their debut commercial project Polly Wog Stew EP, the New York based trio Beastie Boys found themselves on top of the world, but not in their native punk - in hip hop, becoming one of the first critically and commercially acclaimed white groups to succeed in the genre.
Despite unique rebranding, Beastie Boys did not forget their roots, taking their time between Ill Communication and Hello Nasty to compile an EP of hardcore punk songs that would not make it to any of their predominantly hip hop albums.
Originally released in 1995, the Aglio e Olio EP by the Beastie Boys showcases a return to their hardcore punk roots. This new reissue includes two bonus tracks, "Soba Violence" and a cover of the Doors classic "Light My Fire" featuring Miho Hatori from Cibo Matto.
Definitely a damn good punk EP, with good songwriting and amazing production, that manages to stay on the middle ground between clean and raw, lo-fi one.
