According to Parannoul, there's a constant fear that the people closest to them will leave, and everything that's held dear today will one day disappear. The light that shines bright now will be extinguished, and in the end darkness will take over, and nobody - and no energy - will be any the wiser as to the fact something once happened here. It's a heavy theory, but one many of us share, hence this never-ending compulsion to create, pro-create, leave our mark and make sure the legacy continues. After The Magic is a kind of thanksgiving, then: a celebration of "people all over the world" who have helped the artist be themselves. "This album is not what you expected, but what I always wanted," the anonymous South Korean enigma apparently declared. And by that they mean maximalist pop, surreal wall of sound rock, and a kind of lower fidelity electronic indie. More importantly, though, the whole thing shines with the joy of simply being here right now. A lesson we could all take on board at times.
