Punk doesn’t quite get the nostalgic love that pop-punk or even hardcore gets, for whatever reason. In case you needed a reason to reminisce about how great SoCal punk was last decade, the latest record from Israeli punk veterans Useless ID perfectly fits the bill. Taking sonic cues from Bad Religion, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, and, of course, NOFX, State is Burning is a fantastic collection of singalong poppy punk. There’s always something cathartic with humming along to such angry music, and Useless ID really understand the appeal of melodic punk.

After skyrocketing out of Israel 20 years ago, Useless ID made names for themselves in their native land’s punk rock scene. These guys are some of the most dedicated punk rock bands that are active today—members have come and gone; each one having poured literally their entire lives into this band. Through their at times rough but never boring lifespan as a band—after sticking it out through seven albums and three record labels—they present to us now their second release on Fat Wreck Chords. State is Burning is their most pulverizing record to date.
