Label: Beggar's Banquet
Sophomore studio album from Gothic Rock band Bauhaus. Mask was originally released in 1981 and found the band expanding on the sound of their debut, adding synths and acoustic guitars to the mix.
The jagged edges remained but they started to include more the dance based grooves that were finding their way into other post punk acts' material. Lead single "Kick In The Eye" includes a funk influenced bass line, while "Dancing" does not hide its intent. There are definitely some haunting moments to be found, particularly on "Hollow Hills" and the title track. What really stands out for me though, is the nearly perfect "Passion Of Lovers."
