DEFTONES - Saturday Night Wrist LP

Label: Reprise

Saturday Night Wrist captures Deftones at their most fractured, atmospheric and unpredictable. Built amid personal tension and difficult recording sessions, the album turns instability into something strangely beautiful. Crushing riffs on “Rapture” and “Rats!Rats!Rats!” collide with the dreamlike sweep of “Cherry Waves” and “Beware,” while “Xerces” offers one of the band’s most affecting melodies. Chino Moreno moves effortlessly between whispered vulnerability and explosive aggression, surrounded by dense guitars, electronics and uneasy ambience. It may lack the immediate cohesion of White Pony, but its restless variety rewards repeat listening. Dark, sensual and adventurous, it remains an underrated highlight in Deftones’ catalogue.
