'Pinkerton' is a weird one. Released two years after the massively successful 'Blue Album', Weezer undertook a darker, more abrasive sound with abstract and bittersweet lyrics. The band, their label and the press were largely unfavourable of the album, but it has since benefited from a critical reappraisal including perfect scores in Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. It became hugely successful with fans of emo and alternative rock music, with acts as far afield as Mitski and Joyce Manor stating its huge influence on their sound. An essential classic of chunky riffs and honest power pop.
